Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Evicted

We've been living in this house for 10 months without a rental agreement. We moved in with the understanding that the property owner would repair the issues with the hous: Big hole in the exterior wall where work was performed on a gas line, broken garage door, back fence missing/ broken, leaking water heater, et al.

Every time I spoke to him about repairs, he always promised repairs tomorrow, or next week.

Yesterday, I got fed up, and delivered a list of items to be repaired, and his words were ''If you don;t like it then move.'' He delieverd a 30 notice to terminate tenancy a 1/2 hour later.

What are my options? Did he retaliate by evicting me? Do I have any recourse?

Re: Evicted

You did have an agreement....it just was not in writing.

Always deliver your "lists" in writing by certified mail/return receipt requested.

This would be retaliation, and, if you want to stay, file an action in small claims court.

Good luck!
