Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Illegal Dwelling??

I need help, I am living in a aprz 100sq ft duplex which is attached to another house which we share a common laudry room. Up unitl last month I was paying the gas for everyone at 150.00 , after months finally another water heater and meter were put iin. I was never told of theis situationthey were paying it before I came along. My electric bill this month 744.00, last 642.00, This is so crazy. My electricty is off at this moment due to the fact they are so high, my landlord will not refund any of the money I have spent, they said they had a electrician fix problem, hardly due to the fact of even no service half of my house still has electricty. I went to the city hall for hleo and bought copies of everyhting to do with this address back to the 60. Here is the deal I can not find anything in regaeds to splitting this unit, not any permits. The hhouse is up fpr sale I was talking to the realator in regards to this mess, He told the landlord now he wants me to move sayss that I am sabatoging his sale.. I also have to pay 3.00 to wash cloths. Which I am still paying for laundry and for the electricty in a attached garage with a door to my house which thy took from me , none of these were mentioned in agreement. Thanks

Re: Illegal Dwelling??

You need to write the landlord a certified letter, and tell him you you withhold rent until this is taken care of.

Call the utility company, tell them what is going on, and that you are not responsible for this.

What landlord is doing is illegal. Ask the power company who to report this to, if they say they can't help.

Good luck.
