Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Moving out
We were served with eviction notice and after we answered we received a court date. in the mean time we found another place to live and started moving out. The problem is the landlord came to the house we were moving out of and changed the lock, took our mail and several items that were still in the house being moved. What can we do about that?

In a nutshell, you can "sue his pants off" for illegal self help eviction, for his failure to exercise the proper protective unlawful detainer court proceedings before acting. He would be personally liable for your damages suffered here. If you would like prompt, affordable legal assistance in this matter, contact us directly today for a free phone consultation.
Re: Moving out
The landlord cannot lock you out before the court hearing date. You might telephone his lawyer named on the legal papers and tell the lawyer what he's done. In the meantime, you still have a right to access the apartment if you have a written lease to show the police when you call them to gain entry.
