notice to renter

I am getting ready to sell a house that I am currently renting to someone. Can you tell me what all I am required to do as far as giviing notice to the current renter.

Unless there are local ordinances restricting the eviction of tenants for just cause, then you must give either a 30-day or 60-day written notice to quit, depending on the longevity of the tenancy. If the tenant doesn't move by the expiration date, you would have to file an unlawful detainer lawsuit with the court and obtain a court order for possession.

Some landlords find it worthwhile to pay the tenant a reasonable amount of money to move earlier.
