Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
personal property
I had been staying as a guest of the owner in a motorhome located on his property. There was no heat provided so I was forced to stay temporarily with a friend. When I tried to return to the motorhome the locks had been changed he wouldn 't answer his door. I couldn't get my property because I didn't have a key to the gate. I tried numerous times to contact him with notes etc. Last week the gate was open and he answered the door. He told me that ''none of that stuff is yours anymore.'' and wouldn't allow me to get any of my property. What should I do?

Re: personal property
It is your property, and landlord (even though there is no rent) is not entitled to keep property. I would contact the sheriff (I assume you are in a rural area, by your zipcode), and landlord is committing a crime by keeping your property (unless there are more facts which you neglected to mention). The sheriff should help you. Otherwise, you'll have to file an action in Small Claims court for the value of your property.
