Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Reimbursement for bounced security deposit check
I received a security deposit refund check from my former property management company and deposited it into my personal checking account. Five days later, I was charged back for the full amount of the check (~$1400), a $7 ''return item fee'', and roughly $330 in overdraft fees to my account due to insufficient funds. Can I claim reimbursement for the check as well as for the fees incurred (overdraft, etc.)?

Yes. These charges were a direct consequence of your reliance of the validity of their check. Good luck in small claims court.
