Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
I rent a home from my parents who are now divorcing. My mother is telling me to pay the rent to her and my father is telling me to pay the rent to him. My father has also told me that they are going to sell the home so either I buy it now or I will need to move. I did not pay rent for August because they refuse to agree on where the rent money goes. I am afraid they will deny that they received the money anyway. Also, since I do not believe I can get a mortgage at this time I need to save up a chunk of money for moving and a new deposit on another home. My father keeps leaving me messages that he is going to kick me and my family out of the house. What are my rights as a tenant and is it considered harassment for my father to leave those messages? Thank you for any help.
