Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in California
Finding Attorney
My attorney, which I have had for four years, was with a firm. He left the firm in February and took three of his clients with him, myself included. I have not heard from my attorney since he left the firm, and the messages I have left on his phone are not being returned. We have a Summary Judgment hearing the end of August, and a Mandatory Settlement Conference Sept. 5. I need my attorney to be there. How can I find out where my attorney is, or -- because of his age -- if he's still alive? If I cannot find him, what do I do when I go to court next month?

Re: Finding Attorney
Go to the State Bar website, and you'll find all you need.http://www.calbar.ca.gov/state/calbar/calbar_home.jsp
Re: Finding Attorney
The State Bar website is supposed to be updated, but if the attorney has disappeared he may not have updated his bar membership either. You might check with his old firm, or if you know his other clients check with them. If you do not find him contact another attorney ASAP.
Good luck!
Re: Finding Attorney
Take the matter to a new attorney and hire a new lawyer. The new lawyer will petition the court for additional time to get up to speed.
