Legal Question in Personal Injury in California
What do I do if I get attacked by a dog on the street?

If you were bitten, get yourself to a hospital. Then - if you know who the dog belonged to - you should contact an attorney.
You should get immediate medical attention, report the incident to both the police and the animal control in your area and then consult with an attorney. Don't delay in contacting an attorney. The longer you wait, the less you will likely be able to receive. For more information, look under dog bites on my web site at: grennierlaw.com
You should do whatever seems reasonably necessary to defend yourself. If that means hurting or killing the dog, then that's what you should do. The law will not hold you liable for such actions. (Though there is some risk that a judge or jury will not agree you acted reasonably.)
If you are injured in the attack, you should seek medical attention the same way you would with any other type of injury. Then consult with a lawyer if you know -- or know how to find out -- who owns the dog.
If the dog was deliberately set upon you by its owner or someone else it was willing to obey, then you should report the incident to the police.

IF you know who owns it, you could file a claim or lawsuit against them for your damages. If you do, feel free to contact me for legal help.
