Legal Question in Personal Injury in California
Defamation of Character
My boyfriend and I work and live together and also have many people in our building that work at the same job. One of the tenants of our building (she was living above us at the time and she also happened to work with us)started spreading rumors one day that so many people come in and out of our house and that we were drug dealers (without any justification. She went so far as to tell our boss and human resources. The lady was such a trouble maker already, that she was fired for other reasons. That same day, she told our landlord, and the landlord took our side because she knew us -that we weren't drug dealers- and also, because she knew the other tenant and all the problems she brought. The tenant accused the landlord of being a racist for defending us. On more than one occasion we have had friends over, and the tenant has actually said, ''you're going to x's house to get drugs''. Not only is she defaming his and my character, but she's telling everybody that comes to see us, when she has a chance, that we're drug dealers. We're not interested in getting any money out of this situation, we just want her to stop. What is the best way to go about this?

Re: Defamation of Character
You should consult with an attorney about a restraining order. California law provides for a restraining order to protect individuals from harassment.
