Libel and slander defamation of character

nine of my neigbors signed a letter with malcious untrue statements of my family.this letter has done much damage to my children and myself.this letter was also posted at several mail locations throught our small community.the person that started this terrible ordeal has been trying to

run us off our property for at least 2 years.since this letter there were four neigbors that regret signing this malcious act.i want to know what i can do? do i sue them?can I do this myself and how? or what can we do?i would

like something done to stop this type of behavior.

you need to give more facts. what are your tangible damages? what were the statements. under some circumstances, damages for libel are presumed. others, they are not.
