Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

Mounting a Defense

While a guest of a home, my dog scratched or nipped a child while without a leash, on a beach. I am being sued by the child's father for the damages to the child. (a scratch as far as i know). I am also being sued by the insurer of my host, as they don't want to provide a defense for me. I am not able to hire an attorney for either case, and without one, I will have to take a default judgment of 300K. Are there any agencies who can help me with either case? Where should I turn?

thanks

Re: Mounting a Defense

You have to defend this to avoid a default, and should hire an attorney to do so. He may be able to get the insurer to provide defense, but regardless, he should be able to keep the settlement realistic, and 300k is not realistic unless the child was seriously injured. Call if interested.

Re: Mounting a Defense

Check with your insurance company to see if you are covered. The insurance company is not defending you nor were they ever required to. They are suing you for the amount of money they paid for the medical bills and damages to the child.

If you do not have insurance, then try to contact your local legal aid.
