I was rear ended on the freeway, and my insurance has expired..Can i go after the other parties insurance for damages

You 'go after' the other at fault driver and registered owner[s] for whatever your damages are. If they have insurance, that's who pays. If your medical injuries are substantial, with multiple thousands of dollars in treatment bills, then attorneys would be interested.
