Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Hi, my grandmother loaned me the money for a car. The only paper work was a had typed contract that she notarized. It has many mistakes. I have been paying her monthly. Recently, the car was wrecked in a hit and run, leaving me liable for all the damages. The police still have no leads. I was under her insurance and they did not cover it, because she accidentally (so she says) forgot to put uninsured motorist coverage. She is the main person on the registration and everything I am the secondary. She has had the pink slip for months and refuses to give it to me. Now the car is sitting in my apartment complex and they will tow it on Saturday. She will not do anything to help with the car because she says its not her problem. I stopped paying her this last month when she refused again to give me the pink slip or even come sign for it to be salvaged. Now this totaled car is going to cost a lot of money. I had a 800 dollar offer on the car but could not sell it without the pink slip. She is now threatening to take me to court. I only owe her 1000 dollars but all the towing fees are costing so much all because she won't hand over the pink slip. I'm not sure what to do I tried to make her a deal, nothing. The car will be towed on Saturday and she will sue me. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Licensed drivers in California are supposed to have their own insurance. If there is any relief available, I think the starting point is for you to have a heart-to-heart talk with "her insurance" meaning the local agent, to see whether there is any possibility that they will cover this accident.
