Any modification, repair or alteration of a landlord's property without their consent is probably grounds for termination of a lease. I'm guessing, with the reference to "10 years ago" that you have lived there a very long time, and are probably a month-to-month tenant. As such, your tenancy can be terminated on 60 days notice anyway, so the landlord really doesn't need an excuse to evict you. The fact that you altered his or her property without their consent is probably not retaliatory eviction. I'd either try to work this out with your landlord, or start looking for somewhere to move, as you are likely to lose this one.
