Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

After one person vacates the premesis

I leased a house for one year with my boyfriend. He moved out and has refused to contact the landlord indicating he is no longer living here. What about the deposit money we put on the house?

Re: After one person vacates the premesis

The news is not good. Your boyfriend's move-out does not affect the lease. The landlord can look to either or both of you for the rent. He can keep the deposit until the lease ends, then can refund the deposit to either of you. Of course, if you are the one still living there, it would be sensible of the landlord to make the refund to you, and maybe even more sensible and cautious for him to write a check requiring both of your signatures.
