The landlord has to serve you with a three day notice and then go to court to get a judgment of restitution of the premises and then have the sheriff come and remove you. Depending on how big of a backlog the courts have, the whole process can take perhaps 6 to 12 weeks.

If this is only a temporary situation, call the landlord and see if some type of installment rental payment can be worked out. There are legal rights and moral duties and it is not fair to use the system to drag out the period of time you are staying some place rent free. Remember that when you go to rent elsewhere they are going to ask where you last stayed and if your current landlord is upset with you he is not going to give a favorable or neutral reference. The eviction judgment will also appear on your credit report.
