Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in California

Sexual Harassment

I have a female student who reported to me that one of my male co-worker sexsual harrassed her. She already reported it to the president who is in charge of the organization. However, people did not believe her, and said that she has mental problem. Then, they insulted her that she could not stand it anymore and she had to quit school.

My organization is a nonprofit organization. We help all the low imcome sigle Mom by giving them computer training classes. This student was one of the people that we serve.Please let me know what should she do now.

She likely has a claim against the non-profit -- you would be a witness in that case. (Your employer is not allowed to retaliate against you for testifying truthfully on this woman's behalf.) Depending on where the program is, she might also have a procedure where she can file a claim with the City. Depending on the specific program, there are various laws that apply. In CA it is unlawful for a business (whether or not a non-profit) to discriminate against anyone based on their sex. Sexual harassment has long been held to be a form of discrimination. . . .
