Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in California

Super Market EMPLOYEE Sexually Harassed a family member

I received a phone call from my 8.5 month pregnant little sister today, hysterically crying about what just happened to her. I want to know what can be done about this. She was grocery shopping by herself, when a man came up to her and started talking to her. He identified himself as an employee of the store, said that he had just finished his shift and was buying a drink before going home. He kept talking and followed her down the aisle. My sister said that he kept looking at her chest, so she ignored him and kept shopping. He then knelt down at her feet and said ''maybe there's something down here I might want'' and in my sisters words ''VERY obviously looked up my skirt''. She went to complain to the manager who offered NO help besides taking her number down and telling her that the manager would call her in a COUPLE DAYS! She called me, asking what she should do. I called the store and asked for the manager. The man that answered said he was the manager. I told him what happened and he told me he already knew, and that the manager would call her on Monday. So I said ''You just told me you were the manager'' (he was the asst. mgr), Basically he lied a lot more, refused to give me a corporate #, and HUNG UP on me. What can I do?

You, nothing. Your sister should file a police report and a written complaint with the store and its corporate parent office. She can talk to an attorney to see if the facts justify any civil legal action. Feel free to have her contact me.

I disagree with my colleague in the sense that you can certainly assist your sister with the tasks and continue to provide her with support. Usually, you can find the corporate office location on the internet. Good luck.
