I prepare my own sales tax returns, and I have been notified that I will get audited.

How can I get prepared for this audit?

Do I need representation?

Re: BOE Audit

In connection with whether you should have representation, all taxpayers benefit from representation in the case of an audit. The BOE may adjust your taxes and say you owe. Frequently, although the BOE makes an adjustment, taxpayer do not owe and the BOE does not tell them. You need someone to protect your interest.

The question is whether the cost of representation makes sense. It would depend on how much in taxes you might have at stake. The BOE will also charge interest on any tax due.

How to prepare for the audit would depend on what type of business you are in, and whether your sales are to consumers or industry. More information from you would be helpful.
