Legal Question in Tax Law in California

Delinquest Taxes in non-resident states

A person's credit report shows a tax lien filed in 1999. This lien is for taxes resulting from the sale of property on which the person was a co-owner. There is no information on the exact amount of the original tax and what is result of penalties. It would appear that all CA tax amnesty programs have expired. How can the person discover the breakdown fo the current amount showing on the credit report and identify options for clearing of the lien?

Chances are that the tax lien was recorded in the county were the property was located. You should be able to contact the county recorder's office or a title company to get a copy of the lien. The lien should have the name and address of the agency that levied the tax. Once you have this information, the taxing agency should be able to track down your file and tell you what you need to pay in order to settle this debt.
