did not receive my 1099

Did not receive my 1099 from my previous employer. He will not answer my emails. What can I do and when is the last legal date for this to be sent to me

January 31, 2008 is the last date to send it out. Many people wait until the last minute, so yours may be en route. If you don't receive it by February 15, 2008, you can contact the IRS and they will get in touch with your employer for you. Good luck!

1099's are not submitted with your 1040, so it is not necessary that you have received them all before preparing your return. simply make sure that of your income is reported on schedule c.

on the other hand 1099's can be useful when you are attempting to verify your income for loan applications (if the lender asks for more than copies of your tax returns).
