Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

Driving without a licence

My boyfriend got pulled over when he was driving without a licence, and he also didnt have any proof of insurance or registration. Now he has a ticket for $541. He doesnt have the money to pay it. What can he do? He know has proof of insurance and registration. What will happen if he doesnt pay the ticket? Please email me back telling me how he can get out of this situation. Thank you for your time.

Thank you for your posting.

To answer your question, if your boyfriend doesn't pay the ticket, a warrant will be issued for his arrest, and additional charges for failure to appear might be added to the charges. If your boyfriend has proof of insurance and registration now, he should show up in court and present them, which may cause the charges to be reduced or dismissed. He may also qualify for a public defender, who may advise him on what to do. If he doesn't have the money to pay a fine, the court may give him payments, more time to pay it in full, or allow him to serve work labor, community service, or jail time to pay off the fine.

The worst thing he can do is to not show up -- failing to show up means that he has a lack of responsibility, and being responsible is one of the things the court looks for.

I hope this helps, and if you have any other questions, please feel free to email me at [email protected], or call toll free at 1-877-568-2977.
