Legal Question in Traffic Law in California
insurance request for insurance info -- no damage, no insurance
I was recently a passenger in a truck, which was parked along a curb. Upon backing out slowly, the driver (friend) backed into a small car, which may have been parked in the red zone partially, and was parked all the way up to our bumper. There was no damage to the either car, except their license plate was slightly bent; although driver 2 claims there were scratches (which we could not see). The driver 2 seemed like she wanted to take advantage of the incident.
Their insurance company has requested the insurance coverage for the truck, which belongs to our friend #2, not present at the scene. The insurance company stated that they could find no damage, and were requesting info as a formality. Our friend who owns the truck has let his insurance expire just prior to the incident.
Should we complete the form, ignore it, or possibly send a letter indicating that we will comply with any investigation necessary, but at this time, we are not advised as to the coverage??
What would you advise? Should this turn out to be a claim, would it matter if driver 2 was parked in the red?
Thanks.
