Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

Speeding Ticket over 100 MPH

I was on my way home from LA and I was on the 10 freeway and I got pulled over for speeding. The officer cited me as going 113 mph. I was speeding, but I don't believe I was going that fast. Shouldn't my car be equipped with a govenor that prevents speeds of that high? I only have a 4 door Honda Civic. There were two other people with me in the car. This occured about 1:30 in the morning and the freeway was clear. Like I said I know I was speeding but I dont believe I was going that fast. I am really stressing about this ticket because in my line of work I have to drive and if I lose my liscense I will loes my job. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Re: Speeding Ticket over 100 MPH

No, there is no law requiring a governor on cars. It is your responsibility to keep within the speed limit. Your best bet here is to try to show that your speedometer is not properly calibrated (go to a speedometer shop) or get a letter from Honda or an expert mechanic saying the car is not capable of such speeds. Personally, though, I believe it is. If you can get such evidence, take it to court and see if the judge will at least reduce the alleged speed.
