Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

My attorney engaged and consulted with another attorney to write a Petition for the Court in a Civil matter, since my attorney is not a litigator and both attorney's names are on the Petition filed with the Court. Does this mean that they are both my attorneys in this matter and if in the event something would happen to prevent him from attending a Court matter would the other have any obligation to represent me?
