Lawful Issue Surviving

My grandfather's will states his estate be left to his two daughters, and if they die,(They died, one was my mother) the estate goes to the ''Lawful Issue Survivng''. What does ''Lawful Issue Surviving'' mean? I am the only survivng grand-daughter

Your mother would have been entitled to 1/2 of the estate. You would probably inherit that instead. If you had brothers and sisters who have also passed away, their children MAY be entitled to a share. Depends on the will.

Did your mother's sister have any children who have also passed away, who may have had children of their own surviving? That could make a difference as to the other half.

You are the surviving issue talked about in the will. It means any child of your grandmother's child.

Issue is defined as child, grandchild, great grandchild, etc.
