Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California
Motion Picture Industry
My father just past, and the motion picture technicial union said I can't receive anything from his pension. A friend told me to contact a lawyer. What can I do?

If your father had a "true" pension - that is, one that he did not make any contributions to, then you probably don't receive it. Usually only the retired employee and his/her spouse receive "true" pension payments (there are sometimes exceptions for handicapped or dependent children).
If your father contributed his own money to the plan, then you might have a right to receive all or some of it.
I suggest you contact the county bar association's lawyer referral service. They charge a nominal fee ($30 - $50) for about a 30 minute consultation.

Contact a lawyer. One cannot advise you without looking into the matter further.
