Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

how to read grandfathers will

My daughters grandfather passed away over 10 yrs ago. I have always been certain he would have left a provision in his will for his only grandchild as he was a higher up at Getty Oil Co. His son(her father) will not return calls and wouldnt tell us anything about his death or will. I feel there is a trust for her, but do not know how to access his will and find this out and the son will not communicate with us. She is now almost 22 yrs old and we are worried that if he doesnt tell her, he can steal what may be hers by right. Please advise where to start. We currently live in FL, but he lived and passed in CA

Re: how to read grandfathers will

You can see if a probate was filed with the court in the county he lived in when he died--if so, the court file would have information about his will, beneficiaries, assets, etc.
