Re: Trust Closeout

There are many steps to take, or legal "hoops" to jump through, in administering a trust after someone's death. The number of them, and their complexity, will depend on the value of the estate and the type of assets in the trust and outside the trust. There are also deadlines for some of these, and the steps really depend on each particular set of circumstances, so see an attorney experienced in trust administration.

These are usually handled on an hourly billing basis, as the amount of work really depends on each estate, not just its overall value, although the attorney should be able to give you a fairly good estimate of the total charges.

I realize this post may sound self-serving, but understand you don't have to come to me, and if you follow the right steps, you'll protect yourself as trustee as well.

The process of trust closing (settlement) largely depends on what assets exist in the trust, the debts owed, taxes (if any paid. If you need specific assistance, please feel free to contact me. Thank you.
