Legal Question in Employment Law in Canada
Email Offer Work
Hi,
I live in the US, and have for four years worked as an online professor for an online Canadian university. I am getting excellent reviews, and have gotten a steady stream of courses. Earlier this year I got emails letting me know which courses I would teach in the fall, and I accepted, even asked for details. Formal contracts are usually sent out as it is closer to course start, but now the person who gave me the courses has left, and a new person states that he will get back to me re. this, as he is now the one making the decision on who teaches. I believe they need to give me the promised courses. I said no to other courses at other schools since I had gotten courses from this Canadian university. Now it is getting too late to fill my calendar for the fall (online courses are staffed already, most likely). We are talking about $15,000 - $20,000. I make about $45,000 there pr yrI, paid as an independent contractor. I have a Stanford Ph.D, and have taught online as an adjunct for 10 online schools for many years, and have also published on online education. My qualifications are therefore not an issue. The classes are already filled up, and hence are not cancelled. I have a feeling the new guy wants to hire his friend.

Then stop stalling around and take effective action. Have an attorney contact them to demand they honor the agreement, if you feel you don't have enough clout on your own. Feel free to contact me if interested in doing so.
