Legal Question in Administrative Law in Colorado

name change upon marriage

If I sign my name on a marriage license with both my maiden name and my new married name

i.e., jennifer jones smith

do I still have to change documents (social security card, driver license, etc) for them to be legal?

Please let me know.

Thank you!

Re: name change upon marriage

If your maiden name is Smith, no problem. If not, problem.

You could call yourself Jennifer Jones-Smith and be OK, but if your maiden name is Jones it won't work.

There is no requirement that you change your last name at all, and perhaps for business purposes you would choose to continue to be known by your maiden name.
