Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado

Difference between deferred and convicted

How do I know if my sentence was deferred or convicted? I have my court papers and I do not see anything that says conviction. I do see something that says Def has zero balance, probation terminated early. Does this mean it was deferred? If so I would like to know what to do to get this sealed.

"Def" likely stands for "Defendant." Also, you were likely convicted, because a deferred does not carry probation. A conviction may not be sealed in Colorado.

Your paperwork is missing crucial documents. You need to look at the court's file. See what the judge entered on the Register of Actions, look for a deferred sentence agreement which you should have signed. If yours was an El Paso County case, records are kept in the basement of the courthouse. Good luck.
