Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado
Vacating a criminal record.
I was convicted of a mistemeanor theft in 1999 when I was in high school. Unfortunatly I was already 18 and it still follows me. Since the convition I have graduated from H.S and also College. I am being turned down for good jobs because of this conviction. I have not been in any other trouble since then. Is there anyway to vacate this record for employment purposes? Where do I go to find a lawer that can do this for me? I live in Colorado Springs.

In the state of colorado, the state legislature and governor now REFUSE to ALLOW the sealing of any "conviction." If you had a deferred sentence, you may not be convicted, so you can seal. If convicted you cannot seal, BUT WAIT the legislature has passed a law that would allow sealing of convictions. It was vetoed by the governor. That may change in 2008, so pay attention.
