Legal Question in Family Law in Colorado

Legal Emancipation

I am 17 years old and I was told by a local lawyer that I am factually emancipated for I have been living on my own for a year and seven months to the day. How do I get Legally emancipated?

Re: Legal Emancipation

There isn't any "legal" emancipation, per se. No certificate, no court order. At this point you are emancipated until someone proves you're not, which they can't, so they're not likely to try. At 16 I could drive. At 18 I could join the army even if my parents objected. At 21 people could legally sell me a drink. When was I emancipated? Nobody ever said I wasn't. If you want to join the military, you'll need to meet their requirements. If you want to buy a drink, you'll need to wait til you're 21. You may run into a few other restrictions, but for the most part, you're emancipated. It is what it is--no certificate.
