Legal Question in Employment Law in Colorado

I was just terminated from my job. My former employer is trying to get me to sign something for a severance package that says that I resigned. Will this keep me from getting unemployment benefits? When talking to the company's account (who is the HR person and took care of payroll), he said that it was just a formality to protect me from suing them in the future. He said that he would send something to me in an email saying that I was terminated and therefore eligible for unemployment benefits.

Make sure you have a statement from the employer in the agreement that employer agrees to not contest your eligibility for unemployment benefits. Simply saying you were fired will not protect you. The employer could later allege you were fired for cause.
