Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Colorado
What are my rights in breaking a lease in Colorado?
We have been having a lot of problems with where we currently live, and have had nothing resolved as to date and we would like to get out of our lease and move elsewhere. We would like to know what our rights are, and what we legally have to pay the leasing office for us to give a 30+ day notice to move out. I have heard that in Colorado you only have to give a 30 day notice to move out without paying any additonal fees. Is this true?

Dear LawGuru User:
Unfortunately I do not have expertise in this area (I practice real estate law, not landlord/tenant law), except to tell you that in general, Colorado tenants have few rights.
A search for "renters rights Colorado" or "tenants rights Colorado" on the internet will give you quite a bit of information. Also, if you qualify, and I am not assuming that you do, the Legal Aid Society of Metropolitan Denver has programs which make attorneys available to low income residents.
Thank you for using LawGuru.
Sincerely,
