Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Colorado

Father in law died 6/14/09. He signed 12 checks and gave to his girlfriend to pay his bills. Sons have been in colorado since 6/20. She has not brought them his wallet or checkbook and has continued to issue his checks. She also went into the house before sons arrived and ''took what she wanted to have''. They don't know what she took. What should they do now?he left a wiil-32 years old, but she alluded to nother in a safe deposit box, but she says doesn't know what bank. She said he had 4 bank accts-again doesn't know banks. Sounds so fishy.
