Generally speaking there is no right to rescind a contract unless there is fraud and under some specific statutory circumstances. At times when there is no meeting of the minds and the parties to a contract ascribe different meaning to identical terms a contract may be voided since it could be claimed that there was no agreement to begin with.

More information is needed about the subject matter of the contract and the relevance of your trade license. In addition, you should consider the following:

* what you may consider as "shady language" could be legal jargon

* the contract could just be poorly drafted

* the contract may have language that allows the parties to rescind or more importantly may lack certainly disclaimers which you may use to your advantage.

In any event, you should consult with an attorney admitted to practice in Connecticut as soon as possible. Feel free to contact my office at your earliest convenience.

s a Franchise Attorney I can add the following. The answer may depend on what "trade license" means. If it is a business opportunity or disguised franchise, you may have legal rights to rescind. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
