Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Connecticut

Detective harrassment

I live in CT and over the past 3 business day I have had 8 NYPD detectives come to my door and notify me that I am wanted by the DA for questioning regarding a complaint about ID theft. The 1st time I asked if I could have the # to the supervisor that sent them, and they refused and left. The 2nd time 3 different men, 2 are friends of the person who filed the complaint came and demanded I produced ID, and signed a typed letter. I did not follow their directions, and asked them to leave, and they did. Then this morning, I was on my way to pick up my daughter from school, (she was not feeling well ) several more detectives were outside waiting for me. They stated they were not going to leave until they searched my person and my car. Both were male detectives, and I pointed out that I am 6 months pregnant (visibly so) and to stay away from me. I reached in my bag for my cell phone, and they snatched it out of my hands and rumaged through it. Satisfied with what they didnt find, they left, leaving me and my 3 year old shaken. Can they do this? Do they need to notify the local CT police of their intentions? Why was I shown badges and guns, but no paper work supporting their accusations? I believe my rights were violated - HELP!

Re: Detective harrassment

You should have contacted the police. You need to contact a lawyer right away. You may very well have a right to a protection order, and a stay away order from a court. You may also have a right to sue in federal court for the harassment although the case is not worth much.

Good luck

That does not sound like normal police procedure.

The police need to meet certain standards before the stop and search you and your posessions. That is in doubt given the facts you gave. If you want further help, you can email me at [email protected].
