Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Connecticut
My husband went to a local Dentist and had a root canal done. He was billed for the entire procedure to include a crown that was never put in. The bill was $1500+ and sent to collections. Upon receipt of a collections letter from an attorney I called and gave all my banking info and paid the bill in full, and that same day we received another bill for the same amount from a different attorney from a totally different group. I called the Dental Group and was told they also charged us $325 to send to collections. After becoming very skeptical, I stopped payment on the check and need some advice.

The collection letter you received should state that you have 30 days to dispute the debt. If you dispute the debt they need to send you verification of the debt. Assuming you received the letter and 30 days has not passed you need to dispute the debt.
If you did not and the 30 days has passed, then you need to send letters to all three - the dental group and both attorneys explaining what happened and that you are willing to pay what is owed but nothing more. Let them all fight it out.
If that doesn't work then you should call a lawyer.
