Legal Question in Federal Tort Claims in Connecticut

writng a check that was returned as closed account
My husband wrote a check to a comapny to get breaks done on my car and he did not know the account was closed. Company called 9/11/08 to say what happened and the police were there. He has not been notified by the police yet. What can we do. He wants to just pay this, Please help me.
