Legal Question in Immigration Law in Connecticut

My boyfriend have 18 years old and he have his green card for 3 years already can he apply for a citizenship ? he got his green card by his father .. what should him do ?

Normally, a lawful permanent resident is expected to be a resident (green card holder) for at least 5 years in order to become eligible for USA citizenship through naturalization. This applies to someone who got a green card through his father and is over 18 years of age.
