Legal Question in Immigration Law in Connecticut
My sister is a US citizen and married an illegal immigrant for roughly one year. She overheard him talking to a friend on his cell phone and saying that his purpose in getting married was only to get his immigration papers and become a citizen. My sister immediately filed for a divorce. Now the guy is trying to say that she cheated on him and is making up ridiculous stories. He is under the impression that if my sister cheated on him that he can present that information and still get his immigration papers despite the fact that they will be divorced. Does this make any sense and is he correct in assuming that if he says she cheated that he can be granted his papers? He doesnt have any proof of the adultery because it never took place. Could what he is trying to do actually work or have the immigration officials that conduct the interviews heard every con and lie in the book and not be fooled?

He is not correct. Only if he alleges and can prove to the USCIS that he was abused or subject to extreme cruelty by his US citizen wife, then he can self-petition for his residency (green card).
