Legal Question in Employment Law in Connecticut

Civil Action for Back Wages

I am looking to claim Back Wages from an employer I left at the beginning of December. (It involves being underpaid proper Minimum Wage which the employer has already acknowledged to be fact)

I found, through the CT Labor Board, that I may recover twice the wages owed, plus interest, etc., through Civil Action. However, I cannot find a Law Firm that wishes to take my case, due to the fact that it involves a matter of less than $10,000. Can I go about bringing this Civil case by myself, and if so, what steps would I need to take to begin the process? In response (By the employer) to a ''demand letter'', I have received a portion of what I am entitled to, but the amount is much less than what I know to be retrievable by law, and the amount was referred to by the employer in the terms, ''I believe this is fair - Be good...''

Now ''unappreciative'' of his callousness and also the fact that I have MS and need the funds for medical purposes, I wish to proceed as quickly as possible. Thank you in advance for any help you may provide!

Re: Civil Action for Back Wages

If the amount due is less than $3,500 you should bring a small claims complaint in your jurisidiction. If it is closer to $10K you can probably find an attorney on mixed retainer/contingency.
