Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Connecticut

giving notice at the end of an apt lease

when moving last year from ct to ny- one apt to another- i gave notice in aug when i was given a new lease to sign-the old lease expired 9/2. my lease said i had to give 2 months notice. i took that to mean if i was leaving early, not after my lease expired. i had to stay 15 days further at an increased rate until my new apt was ready. the cut and dry is i stayed past the end of my lease(for which i paid) but they now want additional monies extending beyond the lease life. i am having hard time getting my mind around the fact that a 12 month lease was essentially extended. thank you for looking over my problem.

Re: giving notice at the end of an apt lease

If you gave notice in August and your lease expired in September, you didn't give 2 months notice. Two months notice means two months in advance of the renewal date.

If the renewal date is September 2nd then you were required to give notice by July 1st.
