Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Connecticut

I think I made a mistake, what do I do?

I am a member of the CT bar admitted only 4 years ago. My background prior to law school and becoming a lawyer was as a certified public accountant and after I graduated law school and passed the bar I prepared taxes for my father and his friends who had businesses and made a good living at that. I recently attempted to assist a family friend in a purchase of a commercial property and failed to do a title search prior to the deal closing. There turned out to be a building restriction on the land which was a major detriment to the buyer. I am a SNESL alum and I really did not do well in property class. It was taught by an Indian man who said ''don't worry about the small details have your paralegal do it''. That is all I knew about title searches and I kind of hoped all would work out but I was wrong.

Since I am not familiar with professional responsability another course poorily taught at my school SNESL. I am thinking of leaving CT and changing my identity as I do not want this to follow me. I'm sure there is some rule against what I am thinking of doing I just simply didn't learn it in law school but I passed the bar so all is not totally bad, though there is big pontential trouble on the horizon for me if this guy sues.

First, his title insurance company may be able to help if in fact he had title insurance. Second, hopefully you had legal malpractice insurance to cover any potential liability losses. While your client has the right to sue, he may be open to settlement negotiations.

If you need further help, you can email me at [email protected].
