Can a civil litigation plaintiff sue a defendant's family members if a defendant has insufficient assets to pay a judgment ruled against them?

There may be a claim against a family member if the family member has or may have some duty to the plaintiff themselves. If the defendant is a minor there may be a claim against the parents for a statutory amount of $5000 for the liability of parents for the intentional acts of their children.
