Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Connecticut

Scared of the sheriff

I accused a co-worker of sexual harrassment and he was fired. He has gotten a lawyer and today at work a sheriff came to serve me papers, but I had already left work. I dont know why I am being served. Is there a way I can find out what is in those papers before he serves me , should I get a lawyer, and can he sue me for getting him fired?

Re: Scared of the sheriff

Without knowing who is attempting to have you served, it is impossible to find out what these papers are. It could be a summons, it could be a subpoena, or it could be some other paper entirely unrelated to the situation you described.

You should accept them in any event, because avoidance of service, in the long run, generally turns out badly for the avoider.

As for whether he can sue you, anyone can file papers in court. It's doubtful whether he'll succeed, but it depends on what he can prove. If you are being sued, you'll need a lawyer.
