When a woman chooses to keep her maiden name after she is married, hypenated by her marriage name ie., Smith-Jones, is it required that she get an attorney to do this or can she automatically take on this name after she is married?

It's automatic. After the marriage you can go and have your driver's license changed to either the two hyphenated names, your husband's name or do nothing and keep your own.
